Commercial Development Projects Underway in Bloomfield, Connecticut

Bloomfield is home to many dynamic development projects that have brought jobs, housing, and leisure opportunities to area residents. Here are just a few:

  • The CIGNA Project. The overall project is scheduled to be completed by 2010, with certain phases of the development completed in 2003, 2004, and 2005. Currently under construction is a large-scale mixed-use project that includes retail space, a hotel/conference center, an 18-hole golf course, office space, and single- and multi-family housing, including a luxury apartment complex. The project will increase the value of the property from $200 million to approximately $300 million (current dollars). While CIGNA will maintain a substantial presence, the project will significantly diversify the Town’s tax base and attract additional commercial development.
  • Pepperidge Farms. Headquarters in Bloomfield are open, including administrative and a primary production facility. The project is valued at more than $70 million and will bring nearly 300 new jobs to the area. Pepperidge Farms also has a retail outlet at 1414 Blue Hills Avenue in Bloomfield.
  • Shoppes at Gillete Ridge. This high end newly constructed retail shopping center has become a main attraction for Bloomfield residents and its many visitors. Housed in this location is Simsbury Bank, Gillette Ridge Wine & Spirits, Tapas Restaurant, and two highly recognizable names in the country, Starbucks Coffee and  Ruby Tuesday's Restaurant.
  • TJX Homegoods Store Expansion Project. This now 793,000 square-feet distribution center has added approximately 300,000 square feet of additional space and is expected to reach its intended goal of 700 new jobs as part of it's second phase.
  • Thomas Hooker Brewing Company. THBC is now operating in approximately 8,000 sq. ft of space a 16 Tobey Road.  Thomas Hooker products include national and international award winning ales (5) and lagers (4).  Guided tours on Saturdays are scheduled by appointment.  The phone number is 242-3111.
