Town of Bloomfield Seasonal Bulletin of Special Events
Bloomfield has a busy yearly calendar of special events. Here’s a sampling of the annual events that visitors can experience, season by season.
Spring:
In May, we observe Memorial Day with several special activities, including a Memorial Day Road Race and our annual Memorial Day Parade. Everyone comes out to cheer on the local school bands, fire trucks, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and other marchers, and floats paying tribute to our military services. We then gather on the green for a ceremony with local dignitaries and veterans, to thank those who have sacrificed to defend our freedoms.
Summer:
In summer, we hold 6 weekly concerts on our town green, featuring music from the world traditions: Jazz, West Indian, classical, and more. The events are sponsored by the Town and by local businesses. People come from all around the greater Hartford area to spread out their blankets, open their picnic baskets, and just relax to the summer music.
Autumn:
In the fall, our Leisure Services Department and public libraries offer family activities in keeping with the season, such as pumpkin painting and carving contests. The Town sponsors a Hallowe'en party for children, with refreshments, activities, and prizes for the most original costumes. It's a great way for families to come together in a safe, fun environment.
Winter:
In December, we hold our annual Light Up the Town! holiday celebration, sponsored by the Economic Development Department and Bloomfield businesses. The event features family-friendly snacks, hot cider and cocoa, and horse-drawn carriage rides around the green. Of course, the big excitement is the lighting of the holiday tree on the Town green. It's a wonderful community event that reflects the season's good wishes and the beauty of our New England town. |
