Department Divisions, Units & Services

The Bloomfield Police Department follows a quasi-military structure, defined by Divisions, Units and Services.  Divisions serve as the broad category of service types performed by more specific Units operating within each Division.  Each Division is commanded by a Police Lieutenenant or Director, each of whom reports to the Administrative Services Section.  Within each Division are multiple Units, each Unit providing specific services responsive to specific community needs.  Sergeants have oversight responsibility for each Unit, and report directly to one of the Division Commanders.  All Officers, Detectives, Dispatchers, Animal Control and clerical staff are assigned to a Unit, and provide the services that  that are most responsive to community needs and are the most visible component of the police department.  Unit staff report directly to an assigned Sergeant.
